ESA BIC Norway attended Nor-Shipping, one of the world’s most significant gatherings for the shipping industry and maritime sectors, held in Oslo on 2-6 June, 2023.

The ESA BIC Norway stand featured five groundbreaking start-ups, with solutions focused on the maritime sector. These innovative companies captivated industry professionals with their forward-thinking approaches and cutting-edge technologies, paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient maritime industry.

Participation in this event, that brings together global maritime players, technology innovators, investors, and all stakeholders interested in realising ocean opportunities with over 50,000 visitors, provided a multitude of benefits. Not only did it offer direct feedback on products and valuable insights into industry trends, but it also served as a platform for facilitating personal networking. Furthermore, the event created excellent opportunities for companies to reach new target groups, establish partnerships, and attract potential investors.

Our participation in the joint stand during Nor-Shipping exceeded our expectations,” remarked Ellen Svestad, CCO of Usea.
Being part of the ESA BIC NORWAY exhibition allowed us to capture significant attention and generate concrete interest from a number of investors. It was a truly rewarding experience for our company, and we eagerly anticipate following up on the connections made and exploring potential collaborations.

The following five pioneering space-tech companies presented their solutions at the ESA BIC Norway stand:
SurplusMap is a user-friendly software that utilises geo-intelligence from various sources to assist in the planning of green infrastructure. It provides an interactive map that requires no training and serves as a collaborative platform for stakeholders. By accessing accurate information, sharing data, and providing feedback, SurplusMap facilitates efficient decision-making processes with reduced risks and lead time.

Conceptr (formerly Windyfi) revolutionises renewable project development with their SaaS tool for generative concept development. By leveraging gamification, machine learning, geo-spatial data, and equipment information, Conceptr enables non-technical users to generate holistic and integrated concepts for renewable projects in minutes. This empowers renewable players to make optimal decisions that increase project value.

Syrenna unlocks the potential of the ocean by collecting, processing, and visualising data from their WaterDrones. These autonomous drones provide valuable underwater intelligence, allowing for real-time science-based decision-making. Syrenna’s solution reduces the cost and effort of gathering ocean data, enabling sustainable development of the oceans.

Vake aims to revolutionise ship detections by performing real-time ship detections using a network of satellites. Leveraging machine learning and multispectral satellite images, Vake focuses on ships that do not voluntarily disclose their locations. By enhancing maritime monitoring, Vake contributes to improved safety and security at sea.

uSEA pioneers unmanned subsea survey systems by utilising satellite communication and autonomous technologies. Their unmanned, all-weather subsea survey system offers customers cost-effective subsea surveys, minimal emissions, and enhanced safety. uSEA’s unique concept has attracted interest from major industry players and garnered support from institutions such as the Norwegian Council of Research and Innovation Norway.

With their groundbreaking technologies and visionary approaches, these start-ups are at the forefront of transforming the maritime sector and paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future. Nor-Shipping provided an excellent platform to showcase their solutions, create partnerships, and drive the industry forward. As the maritime sector continues to embrace innovation, these pioneering space-tech start-ups will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping its trajectory in the years to come.
