Berlin-Based LiveEO Shapes the Future of Satellite Analytics

On 27 November 2023, the ESA Commercialisation Days: Transportation event will take place. Key actors from the transportation and space sectors will come together to develop new synergies. Read the story below from LiveEO one of the start-ups that will pitch during the event.

    Background:

From the heart of Europe’s tech landscape emerges LiveEO, a company that is redefining how we view and understand our world from space. This Berlin-based enterprise, co-founded in 2018 by Daniel Seidel and Sven Przywarra, harnesses artificial intelligence to interpret satellite data, providing invaluable insights to operators of linear infrastructure across the globe.

LiveEO’s mission is straightforward yet vital: to make infrastructure networks more reliable, safer, and overall, operationally more efficient. Through sophisticated analysis of satellite imagery, it offers real-time data, allowing operators — from railways to energy grids — to pre-empt potential disruptions and hazards.

Recognition for LiveEO’s pioneering work came early. Even before its official founding, it secured the Copernicus Masters award in 2017. This was just a precursor to a series of achievements that would solidify its standing in the tech arena.

    Pioneering change:

In Europe, Deutsche Bahn, the continent’s leading railway operator, partnered with LiveEO to monitor its expansive 33,000 km network. Simultaneously, energy titan E.ON saw the potential in LiveEO’s offerings and became a customer. The firm’s influence didn’t stop at Europe’s borders. By 2022, LiveEO expanded its footprint to North America, forging ties with Dominion Energy, Liberty Utilities, and Avangrid. Further south, an Australian transmission grid operator turned to LiveEO for oversight of its 10,000 km network.

The year 2022 also marked another significant milestone. LiveEO was awarded a €1.7m grant from the European Innovation Council Accelerator, underscoring its potential and innovative approach in the satellite analytics domain. The company’s collaborative spirit is evident in its strategic partnerships with key ecosystem players. Industry giants like AWS, SAP, Esri, Planet Labs, and Trimble have joined hands with LiveEO, amplifying its capabilities and reach.

    Moving forward:

In 2023, LiveEO demonstrated its commitment to environmental stewardship with the launch of a deforestation detection product, catering to the new EU deforestation regulations. This move showcased how innovation can be intertwined with a vision for global sustainability. With its central headquarters in Berlin, operations based in Latvia, and a dedicated sales division in North America, LiveEO maintains a significant global footprint, supported by a team of 130 professionals. The company’s steady growth and strategic collaborations underscore the potential of technology to drive business growth while addressing pressing global issues.
