Age 63. Classical High School Diploma. Master’s degree in political science and economics at Rome’s La Sapienza University. After graduating, he moved to the United States.
- 1986 – 1989, Marketing and Business Development Officer at the Washington, D.C. offices of Agusta Aerospace Corporation and the then joint venture with Westland Helicopters, EHI – European Helicopter Industries.
- 1989 – 1991, at EYRING Technologies Inc. (Provo, Utah), responsible for Marketing and Business Development in Europe.
- Since October 1991, Staff Member of the European Space Agency – ESA.
- Contracts Officer at ESA-ESTEC (Noordwijk, Netherlands) at the Research and Technology Contracts Division (October 1991- June 1999).
- Head of the Contracts Service for Electrical Engineering (covering a.o. procurement activities for microelectronics, radiofrequency, system and software engineering and small satellites) within the same Division (June 1999 – December 2012).
- “Special Advisor”, based in ESTEC, at the “Contracts Department, formerly Procurement Department” of ESA, reporting directly to the Head of Department with various tasks of general interest (2013 – present)
- in addition to the functions of Special Advisor, he also heads the “Responsible Contracting and Management Support Office”, within the Contracts Department, which has merged the functions of logistics planning of procurement activities, compliance control with the regulatory framework and coordination of the development of the esa-star system, development of new standards for “space procurement” and the organization of courses for industry on how to respond to ESA calls for tenders (September 2023 – present).
He lives in Amsterdam and has various hobbies, including studying the bass and soprano viola da gamba, listening to music, high fidelity audio, sailing and skiing.
