Following ESA’s objective for Transformation, a FIRST! campaign has been launched!
FIRST! (which stands for Future Innovation Research in Space Transportation) is an initiative of the ESA STS Future Launchers Preparatory Programme (FLPP). In line with CM22 decisions, FIRST! designates a series of procurements of FLPP in open competition, aiming at fostering Disruptive Technologies in Space Transportation and accelerating their derisking through rapid prototyping and testing. The leading objective is to detect, select and demonstrate technologies with a potential to transform their field of application.
In consistency with the Agenda 2025, the disruptive technologies tested in FIRST! shall contribute to a growing, competitive and autonomous space transportation ecosystem in Europe. With this purpose and as a first phase in the campaign, a call for ideas on OSIP platform has just been published and will stay open until 30 September, 2023.
The goal of this call is to:
- Identify Technology Providers in certain technology fields which are key for future European Space Transportation
- Identify space transportation service providers and industrial primes interested in Disruptive Technologies in these fields, their needs and preferences
- Identify potential investors interested in key Technology Providers for ESA future STS.
The technology fields selected for this campaign are:
- Reusable flexible thermal protection for launchers rear part
- Innovative mechanical joining technologies for metallic and composite structures
- Advanced composite structures
- Lightweight stainless steel tanks and structures
