This activity will study the architectural and technological advancements needed to deliver satellite-based broadband services fromGEO at a cost comparable to that of terrestrial networks. The study will firstly identify future applications, user profiles, performance benchmarks, and cost targets for future broadband service provision; survey existing satcom mission profiles, system architectures, satellite designs, and operational concepts; and subsequently formulate a system-level approach to deliver the expected use cases at the target price point when operating within a multi-orbit satellite architecture. The outputs from the activity will include the service definition, outline satellite design, and overall system architecture, as well as a roadmap to realise the technology developments needed to realise such a system.
