    The European Space Agency (ESA) invites you to the ESA IP & Patents Series 2024-2025, a comprehensive webinar series hosted in collaboration between the ESA SME Office and the ESA Commercialisation Services Department on the ESA Learning Hub. This series is designed to cater to a general audience, with a special focus on SMEs and start-ups looking to enhance their understanding of Intellectual Property (IP) and patents.

    Intellectual property and patents are crucial strategic tools that should be integral to business decision-making and strategy. This nine-part series will feature specialists from the world of patents and IP, who will introduce important concepts and provide valuable insights.

    The series will cover the following topics in each session:

    1. Patent Database Masterclass: An interactive session offering practical advice for searching existing patents.
    2. Trade Secrets: Key considerations when bringing new technical staff on board and how to protect yourself from any breaches.
    3. Litigation: Exploring options if going to court is your only route to resolution.
    4. Designs Around: Strategies to employ if you encounter a commercially blocking patent.
    5. Preparing for the Patent Process: Steps to take to reduce costs associated with patenting.
    6. Oppositions and Third-Party Observations: Actions you can take if you find a commercially blocking patent.
    7. Due Diligence: Assessing the strength of your position for patenting, commercialisation, and investment.
    8. Licencing: Important considerations when agreeing to sign or offer a licence.
    9. Patent Claims Dissection: Understanding what patent claims mean.

    This series is an excellent opportunity for SMEs and start-ups to fortify their knowledge in IP and patents, ensuring they are well-equipped to navigate the complexities of patent management, business development and commercial operations.
