The Hungarian start-up CropOM has developed “Data Cube & Digital Twin”, two solutions able to make easier to train AI algorithms to automate decision-making and execution. But how are they are connected to space?

CropOM was launched in 2016 in Austria. In 2022 they founded their Hungarian company as well. Now they decided to be part of the ESA BIC Programme to learn, grow and achieve new milestones in their story. Their technology aims to model processes in space and time and enable robust decision-making under extreme and unpredictable conditions.

CropOM builds software and a platform integrating data, decision processes, and action mechanisms. With the help of their Data Cube technology, they provide easy access to spatial data. With their Digital Twin solution, they make environmental and economic processes easy to interpret and model. Based on these, they provide the opportunity to train AI algorithms to automate decision-making and execution processes. “The Earth observation data produced by the space sector is of irreplaceable value to us”  says Márton Tolnai, founder of the company. “The beauty of the downstream sector, particularly the Copernicus program, is the volume of data available daily and its cost-effectiveness. The challenge is to combine the huge variety of data into a standard format. This is what we are trying to address with our DataCube technology.”

For CropOM the educational sector is extremely important in effectively disseminating technology. ESA BIC supports them also in the  development and validation of their educational prototype named EDU Cube. Through the ESA BIC programme they can easily connect to different universities academic programs. “We believe that data, decision-making, and action processes work most efficiently on a common platform, in a unified software environment.” Their primary goal is to help as many businesses and institutions as possible. They also want to provide assistance in low-digitized sectors and significantly shorten the path to the use of high-tech technologies.

Along with their technology, they want to spread the expertise on how to use it. The founders of CropOM are well aware that in many industries, the introduction of their software represents a real technological leap, so it could be a challenge to them and their partners. “We’re building the software of the future, and we’re not doing it because it’s easy. But the good news is that our partners are companies that understand the technological challenges of the upcoming years and are ready to solve them today.”
