    Barbara Scarnato

    Barbara Scarnato is a Principal Consultant and team lead at DNV. She has a distinguished background in remote sensing, in the context of monitoring the ocean, land, and atmosphere. Her expertise lies in leveraging satellite data to support sustainable development, risk mitigation, and informed decision-making processes in various business segments. Barbara is highly enthusiastic about the potential offered by the emerging new space infrastructure to enhance and expand existing business opportunities. 

    Barbara holds a Dr.Sc. degree from ETH Zurich in Switzerland. Her international career includes roles as a researcher at NASA and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Meteorology at the Naval Postgraduate School. Her focus on remote sensing of the ocean and atmosphere has been instrumental for Navy decision-making. 

    In her current role at DNV in the private sector, Barbara applies her knowledge of remote sensing to bridge the gap between scientific knowhow and practical applications. She creates and implements satellite-driven information products, enabling data to become actionable for stakeholders in diverse industries, including maritime, energy, and even the movie industry.
