On 17 September, a select group of investors, institutional representatives and space-sector experts gathered at the European Space Agency (ESA) Headquarters in Paris to discuss a common challenge: how to strengthen the conditions for investment and growth across Europe’s space economy.
Organised under the Joint Commercialisation Initiative of ESA, the EU Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) and the European Commission (DG DEFIS), the workshop provided a dedicated forum for investors to exchange perspectives on the opportunities and challenges shaping Europe’s space investment landscape.
Designed as a highly interactive working session rather than a traditional conference, participants gathered around moderated discussion tables to explore key questions affecting the future of private investment in the space sector.
Tackling the big questions facing Europe’s space economy
Across the three discussion tracks, participants examined topics ranging from deal flow quality and due diligence support to growth-stage financing, market demand and institutional collaboration.
Investors highlighted the need for stronger visibility of market opportunities, greater support for industrialisation and late-stage financing, and more effective mechanisms to connect investors with high-potential companies across the European space ecosystem.
The conversations were practical, candid and forward-looking, generating a wealth of recommendations that will help inform future activities of the Investor Network and the broader ESA, EUSPA and European Commission collaboration.
More than a workshop: building connections across the ecosystem
One of the strongest messages emerging from the discussions was the importance of creating spaces where investors can exchange perspectives openly and build lasting connections across the ecosystem. Participants highlighted the value of bringing together institutions, investors, corporates and high-growth companies around the same table, not only to discuss current challenges but also to anticipate future opportunities.
In this context, ESA’s role extends beyond supporting innovation. By convening stakeholders from across the investment landscape, the Agency acts as a facilitator, helping to connect expertise, align perspectives and foster the relationships needed to accelerate the growth of Europe’s space economy.
