The microfiber is free of petrochemical materials and chemicals, and allows dirt to be absorbed better, so effectively that water is sufficient for facial cleansing. In ESA BIC they want to further develop the fiber to be used for clean room atmosphere, e.g. in satellite production. Furthermore, they want to prove if the material of the reusable and washable wipe is particularly suitable for the special case of cleaning towels in manned space flight such as the ISS. Due to the fiber structure, the water can easily evaporate, which causes the towel to dry very fast and gives bacteria and fungi no place to manifest or time to grow.
