Dromos
ESA and its partners have established and proven technologies, such as satellite-based communication, which can be used to secure/replace the V2X channels in critical situations.
The use of satellite-based services requires, among other things, the seamless handover of services between different technologies (from satellite to mobile and back), multiple redundancy strategies between complementary technologies to improve security and reliability, and localization via satellite vs. mobile network (triangulation vs. odometry).
The ESA-BIC project aims to evaluate these alternative channels for dromos, verify their validity, reliability and cost-effectiveness, and prepare all this for a pilot application.
