Workshop on Quantum Satellite Networks

The ESA Connectivity and Secure Communications team, in collaboration with the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), invites quantum computing and satellite quantum communication experts to the Workshop on Quantum Satellite Networks on 6-7 March 2025, in Vienna, Austria.
This event will bring together experts to discuss and explore the concepts, benefits, and challenges of quantum networks. The goal is to create a collaborative platform for researchers and industry professionals to discuss architectures and technologies for satellite Quantum Information Networks (QIN).
Event Highlights
Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to global experts share their insights on quantum communication technologies. The event will feature discussions on secure, long-distance quantum network solutions, research from Nobel Prize-winning institutions, and advancements in distributed quantum computing.
The topics of discussion will focus on:
- Developing and describing quantum computing and devices distributed over large distances, including foreseen solutions and requirements for the computer-network interfaces.
- Designing Quantum Information Network architectures including LEO / MEO / GEO satellites.
- Developing quantum satellite technology for in-orbit demonstrators and future services (e.g. quantum sources and detectors, quantum communication capable ground stations, space terminals, link budget estimates, network simulators).
- Discussing pioneering applications of satellites enabled quantum links and networks (QKD and beyond).
