Winners of the first European-Indian space startup competition 2024

We are happy to announce the winners of the first European-Indian Space Startup Competition, a groundbreaking initiative designed to forge powerful partnerships and encourage innovation within the space industry.

Especially on the celebration of the 20th anniversary of our ESA Business Incubation Centres (ESA BICs) network, we look forward to expanding the reach of European space startups and scaleups globally. Winning companies receive a sponsoring to attend the 8th Bengaluru Space Expo, India, an event organised in association with ISRO, Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACE) and NewSpace India Limited (NSIL). The winners will be accompanied by representatives from the European Space Agency (ESA).

This competition identified the most promising European space startups with potential business cases for the Indian market or collaborative projects with Indian partners.

    The winners of the competition

Apogeo Space (Italy): Apogeo Space is an innovative SME focused on building the first private Italian picosatellites constellation company for IoT connectivity, a constellation of satellites to provide a global telecommunication service for the IoT, connecting low power and low datarate devices located in remote or poorly connected areas. The company is also involved in R&D activities on nanosatellites and cubesats.

Riverkin (Switzerland): Riverkin’s Water Data Ecosystem addresses critical water management challenges exacerbated by climate change and population growth. Riverkin’s advanced sensor technology, coupled with satellite images and models, enable their clients to increase operational efficiency and manage water risk, while ensuring environmental compliance.

Spacedreams (France): Created in 2021, based in Paris and Toulouse, SpaceDreams is a spaceport architect that aims to enhance the competitiveness of launchers through the development of interoperable and modular launch pads. The company provides turnkey ground systems solutions for launchers and spaceports, as well as launch and operational maintenance services, in order to reduce the cost and time of access to space.

Zaitra (Czechia): Zaitra optimizes space data delivery by providing onboard products/services. Zaitra’s software and hardware solutions cover all data handling needs of EO missions. With their advanced algorithms, they focus on 3 pillars of onboard data processing: identifying and filtering noisy data, extracting important insights and providing services that improve the onboard mission autonomy of the satellites.
