     Anthea graduated “cum laude” in aerospace engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan in 2014. 

    In 2017, she obtained the master’s degree in space engineering “cum laude” from the Polytechnic of Milan and the engineering diploma as part of a double degree program at the National School of Aeronautics and Technology. Space (ISAE-SUPAERO) in Toulouse, France. The same year, he also obtained a master’s degree in advanced image and signal processing and control from the University of Paris-Saclay, France. 

    In 2021, Anthea obtained her PhD in Autonomous Navigation for Space Rendezvous at the École Nationale Supérieure de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace (ISAE-SUPAERO) in collaboration with Thales Alenia Space in Cannes and Toulouse, France. During her doctorate, she spent six months as a visiting researcher at the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Laboratory at Polytechnique Montréal, Canada. 

    In addition to her native language Italian, Anthea is fluent in French and English and has basic skills in Russian. 

    After completing her doctorate, Anthea Comellini worked as a flight dynamics engineer in orbit determination for interplanetary missions at ESA’s European Space Operations Center ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany, from 2021 to 2022, where she conducted deep space navigation operations on missions such as BepiColombo, GAIA. , Mars Express and ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter. 

    Since 2022, Anthea has worked as a GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) and AOCS (Attitude and Orbit Control System) engineer in the research and development department of Thales Alenia Space in Cannes, France. She is currently working on projects aimed at a more sustainable space and in particular Space Rendezvous, making it possible to extend the lifespan of satellites or to deorbit them at the end of their life, and to fight against space debris. 

    She is certified as a lifeguard and holds a private pilot’s license.  

    In November 2022, Anthea was selected as a member of ESA’s male and female astronaut pool
