After graduating from University College Dublin (UCD), with a first-class honours degree in Computer Science, Paul Kiernan co-founded and is Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of Skytek Ltd. Skytek is a software Development Company headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, with several offices throughout Europe.
Paul has been the chief architect on many space sector and human space flight software projects for both ESA and NASA. This includes the International Procedure Viewer (IPV) system which is deployed on the International Space Station. It supports the crew on board to perform daily operational activities. For this work Paul was awarded the NASA Johnston Space Centre Exceptional Software Award in 2008 and the NASA ‘outstanding development’ award in 2014.
Paul Kiernan is leading the development of software technology solutions within the maritime sector. He combines space technology data sets (i.e. EO, S-AIS, SAR), data fusion and machine learning to provide solutions to the insurance industry. Several software as a service (SAAS) products have now been launched which have been successfully commercialised in this sector.
