Europe’s space sector is evolving at speed, driven not just by flagship government programmes but by a growing network of SMEs and midcaps. These companies are essential to Europe’s technological independence and competitiveness, yet face persistent barriers in accessing the full spectrum of finance they need to scale.
Access to Capital
While equity investment has surged, equity cannot carry the sector forward on its own. Debt financing, which has underpinned growth in industries such as energy and infrastructure, remains underutilised in the space sector. Without new mechanisms to de-risk lending and broaden capital access, companies risk stagnation or relocation abroad.
The New Report
Atlantic Alliance, with support from ESA Ventures and Financing Office, has produced a report that draws on insights from leading lenders across Europe. “Credit Horizons – Unlocking Debt Financing in the Evolving Space Economy” identifies financing gaps, explores potential solutions, and sets out practical recommendations for expanding debt financing in the space sector.
For policymakers, investors, and entrepreneurs, the findings highlight a pivotal moment: Europe has the innovation, talent, and market momentum — now it must strengthen the financial infrastructure to match.
