The event brought together corporate innovators, investors and entrepreneurs to strengthen Europe\u2019s deep tech ecosystem and increase engagement between the<strong> space sector<\/strong> and the <strong>financial community<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Showcasing Europe\u2019s space capabilities<\/h2>\n<p>ESA contributed to the programme through dedicated sessions on technology development and commercialisation. On 20 May, <strong>Dietmar Pilz<\/strong>, ESA Director of Technology, Engineering and Quality, delivered the keynote \u201cEngineering Europe\u2019s Space Advantage: How ESA is Raising the Bar on Technology, Quality and Industrial Readiness\u201d, highlighting the need for European technological sovereignty in space through DeepTech, the importance of scaling startups and linking them to industry buyers and investors, and how space is a key enabler of European competitiveness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/commercialisation.esa.int\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/A2A0550-scaled-e1780609773718.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16781 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/commercialisation.esa.int\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/A2A0550-scaled-e1780609773718.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"370\" \/><\/a><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Dietmar Pilz, ESA Director of Technology, Engineering and Quality, at DTM 2026<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Walther Pelzer<\/strong>, Member of the Executive Board at DLR, also contributed with a keynote on the role of space as critical infrastructure, underlining its importance for Europe\u2019s economy and strategic autonomy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gianluigi Baldesi<\/strong>, Head of ESA\u2019s Ventures and Financing Office, led the masterclass \u201cFrom Space Technologies to Market Opportunities: ESA\u2019s Commercialisation Agenda\u201d, focusing on how ESA adapts to a New Space approach and how companies can be supported through ESA\u2019s commercialisation activities, highlighting examples such as the <strong>ESA Investor Network<\/strong>, the <strong>Tech EU Space Envelope<\/strong>, the <strong>ESA Marketplace<\/strong>, and more.<\/p>\n<h2>Enabling collaboration and market access<\/h2>\n<p>The event provided a platform for interaction between ESA-supported startups and industry stakeholders. <strong>Through curated matchmaking activities,<\/strong> <strong>ESA facilitated more than 25 meetings<\/strong> connecting space ventures with potential partners and customers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seven ESA and DLR-supported startups participated in the DTM100 Pitch Competition<\/strong>: apheros, DBSpace, Embodied AI, Enantios, Zaitra, SunCubes and Solid Air Dynamics. Their participation reflects the breadth of innovation emerging from space technologies.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, <strong>ESA Marketplace-supported companies<\/strong> were represented in the session \u201cTitans of Europe &#8211; Space &amp; Defence &#8211; Earth Observation for a Contested World\u201d, featuring industry actors including Max Gulde, Daniel Seidel and Ezequiel S\u00e1nchez, alongside representatives from <strong>OHB<\/strong>, <strong>Isar Aerospace<\/strong> and <strong>ICEYE<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/commercialisation.esa.int\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/DTM_Gianluigi-2-scaled-e1780609891696.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16782\" src=\"https:\/\/commercialisation.esa.int\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/DTM_Gianluigi-2-scaled-e1780609891696.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"765\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Gianluigi Baldesi, Head of ESA\u2019s Ventures and Financing Office, at DTM 2026<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The event also contributed to increased visibility of the space sector within the wider deep tech ecosystem, with ESA supporting exchanges between industry, investors and policy actors.
