{"id":8874,"date":"2024-02-22T12:39:32","date_gmt":"2024-02-22T11:39:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/commercialisation.esa.int\/?post_type=esa-event-speaker&#038;p=8874"},"modified":"2024-02-22T12:39:32","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T11:39:32","slug":"dr-sanjay-vijendran","status":"publish","type":"esa-event-speaker","link":"https:\/\/commercialisation.esa.int\/?esa-event-speaker=dr-sanjay-vijendran","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Sanjay Vijendran"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN-MY\">Dr.<span class=\"xapple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"xsearchhighlight\"><span lang=\"EN-MY\">Sanjay<\/span><\/span><span class=\"xapple-converted-space\"><span lang=\"EN-MY\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-MY\">Vijendran is currently<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the European Space Agency\u2019s<span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span lang=\"EN-MY\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-MY\">Lead for SOLARIS, which is a<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span>new<span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span lang=\"EN-MY\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-MY\">R&amp;D initiative to mature the credibility of Space-based Solar Power for providing clean energy to Earth<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span>from space<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-MY\">and<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-MY\">prepare future decisions in Europe on a full development programme. Previously, Dr. Vijendran has served for more than a decade in ESA\u2019s Mars Robotic Exploration Programme,<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span>planning and implementing the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-MY\">studies and technology development activities that prepare for future European robotic missions to Mars. He was instrumental in establishing in 2019 the international partnership between ESA and NASA on the multi-mission Mars Sample Return programme which<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span>is<span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span lang=\"EN-MY\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-MY\">aiming to robotically return samples from Mars to Earth for the first time in the next decade.<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span>He also had the privilege of working as a payload engineer and scientist on NASA\u2019s Phoenix Mar Lander mission that landed on Mars in 2008.<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-MY\">He holds a PhD in Semiconductor Physics from the University of Cambridge and has published widely on semiconductor devices and Mars exploration missions and technology<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":8875,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"class_list":["post-8874","esa-event-speaker","type-esa-event-speaker","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":{"speaker_company_role":"Lead for the SOLARIS Initiative, ESA","speaker_linkedin_url":"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/sanjay-vijendran-2018\/"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.6 -
